Parenthood – Making the Most of Your Life

Several years ago, a good friend of mine told her daughters that if the only accomplishment they could think of for her life was “mother” don’t put it on her tombstone, because she’d be ashamed to wear it. She continued, “parenthood is a biological reaction to an act that disrupts sleep and life, resulting in the creation of a pooping noisemaker.”

I didn’t get offended by my friend’s remarks, because I know her quite well, and she’s raised two fine daughters. She’s also been an extremely active woman and a spokeswoman for, well, women. So, when I realized she really didn’t feel that her efforts at parenting were important, I looked a bit deeper into the thought process…

I’m still looking.

Parenting my children has always been my most important effort in the whole world. I can’t imagine living in this world without my children. They make the world spin on command.

Why?

While other girls dreamed of being lawyers, doctors, nurses, and financial wizards, I dreamed of holding babies, loving them into adulthood and promoting their individuality as they grow and develop into whole people. That was my dream. When my children arrived, I couldn’t have been happier, just to have the opportunity to be a parent.

Does that mean I haven’t accomplished anything else in life? Nope. I’ve accomplished many great things in my life – but none of those things matters so much as being a parent.

Make the most of your life by being what you want to be. Make a difference in the way the world sees you by seeing yourself in the best light possible. Always choose to see the greatness in who you are by following your dreams to success.
